Gentle Vets Hawaii is home for many experienced veterinarians. Dr’s Joseph and Mariel Edhlund are accomplished veterinarians who come to East Oahu from the island of Guam where they were known for their legendary client service and lifesaving veterinary medicine. East Oahu and Honolulu residents are rapidly coming to know the caring and quality of veterinary service these veterinarians provide. Gentle Vets has rapidly becoming a leading private veterinary practice on Oahu. Dr. Joe Edhlund’s concern for the extended Pacific Community is well known. In 2002, Dr. Joe, with support of the Rotary and other concerned people and organizations of Guam, used his airplane to fly emergency relief to the outer islands of Yap, saving numerous lives in the process. For his work he was awarded official governmental recognition by the Yap State Government and the Guam Medical Society. He continued his humanitarian work by providing extensive assistance to the people of Sumatara in the wake of the Super Tsunami of December 26, 2004. When Super-Typhoon Haiyan smashed into the Philippines in 2013 Drs. Edhlund immediately organized a relief trip to Palawan to assist in recovery efforts.

Dr. Joe is a highly experienced veterinary orthopedic surgeon with three decades of experience. He also has become highly proficient in dealing with dog and cat eyes and can provide advanced care if your pet has eye problems.

Our practice’s reputation for innovative and caring approaches to veterinary healthcare, under the leadership of Drs. Edhlund led Marianas Vetcare in Guam to become the center for Quality Veterinary Care in the Western Pacific. Over the years, Drs. Joe and Mariel have spread their brand of top quality medicine and care to the neighboring islands with clinics held in Yap, Pohnpei, Palau and the Philippines, even consulting to the University of the Philippines College of Veterinary Medicine. Drs. Edhlund and Hadar coordinate with centers of learning and advanced medicine in the mainland US, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Philippines, and Japan. Now Drs. Edhlund have partnered with Southern California Veterinary Specialists and are bringing the best available veterinary medicine and surgical techniques home to us in Hawaii and hope to expand their out-island services, combining Dr. Edhlund’s love of flying with his passion for providing optimal veterinary care.

Dr. Mariel Edhlund‘s passion for providing the utmost in patient care clearly shows and is the basis for the name we chose – Gentle Vets. “Doc” is qualified as a doctor not only by his name but also by his caring attitude. He learned this attitude by doing his residency training at the Gentle Vets University for Dogs where he observed the caring attitude of the veterinarians and staff at Gentle Vets. Those who know Doc well know of his sincere care for our patients. The slightest cry and he will be there checking things out. He also brings toys to hospitalized patients to cheer them up. His exuberance in greeting clients and patients is unmatched. He also offers free leash training to any recalcitrant leash walkers. You can be sure Doc will be keeping an eye on your pet to make sure everything comes out right!
